The Details

Furnace efficiency is measured as Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE). Many furnaces from 1990 and earlier run at 65% AFUE or less, while today's high efficiency models can save up to 50% in operating costs over a ten year old unit. The DOE's regional minimums are 90% AFUE in the North and 80% in the Southeast and Southwest. Our Carrier line starts at the Comfort 80 (80% AFUE) and runs through the Comfort 92 (up to 92.1% AFUE), the Performance 96 (up to 96.7% AFUE, two-stage gas valve) to the Infinity 98 with Greenspeed Intelligence at up to 98.5% AFUE, with a modulating gas valve and a variable-speed ECM blower.

Good To Know

A furnace with a variable or multi-speed blower ramps up to your thermostat setting instead of turning on at full speed. That removes the cold air blow of single speed furnaces and dramatically reduces system noise. As a factory authorized Carrier dealer we install the full line, and we service and repair all makes and models. Any duct modifications come from our own sheet metal shop in Montgomery City, so the new furnace fits the ductwork it connects to.

We called Central Heating & Cooling, Montgomery City MO, and they answered, took our name & said they would get to us as soon as they could.  That was at 10am on a Sunday morning. At 3:00pm that day Ben B showed up and within 45 minutes we had cool air again!  He was FANTASTIC!!  He knew what he was doing, did it efficiently and was also very nice and friendly. He even went into the crawl space under the house to make sure no mice had chewed through the wiring.  He was very methodical in his approach in diagnosing our problem. The Central repairman came very quickly and replaced the tubing. Then I remembered the worn out flapper in the toilet tank and he replaced that as well. Very professional and pleasant to work with. What AFUE rating should I look for?

Our line starts at 80% AFUE and runs to 98.5%. Higher AFUE means less gas burned for the same heat, so the more you run the furnace, the more a higher rating pays back.

Will a new furnace be quieter?

Yes. Variable and multi-speed blowers ramp up gradually instead of starting at full blast, which removes the cold air blow and cuts system noise.

What warranty comes with a Carrier furnace?

A 10-year parts limited warranty with timely registration. The Infinity 98 and Performance 96 also carry a lifetime limited heat exchanger warranty.
